By Jeffrey Hill | August 30, 2012

[Satellite TODAY 08-30-12] The European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (Eumetsat) has signed a cooperative agreement with the Chinese State Oceanic Administration that will allow both agencies to exchange oceanographic satellite data, Eumetsat announced Aug. 30.

Eumetsat will provide data from Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) instruments hosted on its Metop, Jason-2 and Jason-3 spacecraft. China will provide data from its HY-1 and HY-2 satellites, including altimeter, radiometer and scatterometer data.
Eumetsat said the collaboration also covers work on data processing, scientific activities, calibration and validation. The agreement is Eumetsat’s second with China, after inking a cooperation agreement with the China Meteorological Administration in July 2008.
