[Satellite TODAY 07-08-11] NewSat signed $2.35 million in new contracts during May and June to provide satellite communication services to Australian Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste, the company announced July 7.
The new contracts include: a proactive communications agreement to provide satellite service for U.S. Military troops in Southern Afghanistan; contracts with Atlas Iron and Nixon Communications to provide satellite connectivity for remote pipeline construction and mining operations in Australia; a contract with Hitron to support satellite projects across Papua New Guinea; and a partnership in Timor Leste to provide U.S. Navy satcom service.
In a statement, NewSat CEO Adrian Ballintine said the new contracts have increased the company’s 2011 financial year business total to $16 million. “NewSat’s focus on military, mining, oil and gas has seen NewSat deliver consistent results, quarter-after-quarter. This positions us well for our first geostationary communications satellite, Jabiru-1, which will deliver greater satellite capacity to these markets.”
