By Jeffrey Hill | March 17, 2011

[Satellite TODAY 03-17-11] DigitalGlobe contracted Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services to launch the WorldView-3 next-generation, high-resolution Earth-imaging satellite on an Atlas 5 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., in 2014, Lockheed Martin announced March 15.
DigitalGlobe will use the satellite to support its contract with the U.S. National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) to deliver increased commercial satellite-imaging capacity for NGA’s EnhancedView program. The NGA established EnhancedView to provide products and services that help meet the U.S. Department of Defense’s increasing geospatial intelligence needs.
“We are gratified by DigitalGlobe’s recognition of the overall value and unsurpassed reliability of the Atlas launch services solution. Our commitment to the accuracy and timeliness of the delivery and our dedication to the criticality of the mission match the needs and expectations of DigitalGlobe and its customers,” Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services General Manager Jack Zivic said in a statement.
