Inmarsat Navigation Ventures Ltd. received a contract from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop and certify a transceiver terminal for the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), the U.S. Department of Defense announced Aug. 13.
Under the $18 million contract, Inmarsat will modify the BGAN network to support space-based terminal equipment, support the integration of the space-based BGAN terminal with a government demonstration satellite and support the on-orbit connectivity via the BGAN network for the demonstration satellite mission.
Work is expected to be completed in September 2015.
