[Satellite TODAY 07-16-10] NASA has contracted Millennium Engineering and Integration to provide support for the U.S. Department of Defense’s Rapid Response Space Works (RRSW) program, the agency announced July 15.
Serving as a contracting agent for the Pentagon’s Operationally Responsive Space Office (ORS), NASA issued the five-year, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity award to Millennium. Millennium Engineering will design, develop, build, operate and sustain the RRSW to enable rapid access to space for the U.S. Military. The RRSW activities include mission coordination, design, development, procurement, assembly, integration, test, on-orbit, launch and ground system support. NASA will play a role in planning, acquisition and operations of ORS efforts.
The work will be performed at Kirtland U.S. Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M. The contract includes a subcontract with Raytheon.
The RRSW program is part of a NASA effort to meet future military space needs. The program also includes development work for Modular Space Vehicles (MSVs). Combined, the two development contracts share a maximum value of $500 million.
