[Satellite TODAY 01-06-10] The U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center has contracted United Launch Alliance (ULA) to launch the Wideband Global Satcom-4 (WGS-4) satellite, ULA announced Jan. 4.
    ULA will launch WGS-4 aboard a Delta 4 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., between December 2011 and February 2012,
WGS-4 will be the fourth satellite of the WGS system and the first in the Air Force’s Block 2 series. Its mission is to provide additional information broadcast capabilities and enhanced communications to U.S. military troops for the next decade. WGS-4 will join the the WGS-1, -2 and -3 satellites launched October 2007, April 2009 and December, respectively.
    Financial details of the award were not disclosed.
