[8-28-07 – Satellite News Today] Symmetricom Inc’s latest-generation XLi SAASM time and frequency receiver has been granted security approval by the U.S. Air Force, the company announced Aug. 28.

Initially security approved for use in 2005, the latest version of the receiver includes a ground-based GPS receiver application module (GB-GRAM) SAASM receiver.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff issued a mandate in October 2006 which requires all newly fielded U.S. Department of Defense GPS systems to use SAASM compliant devices, Symmetricom said. The new receiver will begin shipping in October.
