Indra Group, a Spanish technology and defense company, has agreed to acquire an 89.68% stake in satellite operator Hispasat from Redeia, a Spanish infrastructure corporation, for 725 million euros ($747 million), Indra announced Feb. 3.

The deal includes Redeia’s 43% share in Hisdesat, a Spanish government satellite services provider, with Indra already holding 7% of Hisdesat.

The acquisition aligns with Indra’s strategy to secure space communications and expand its role in Europe’s space sector. Following its purchase of Deimos in 2024, Indra aims to consolidate civil and military space capabilities under its new entity, Indra Space. The purchase is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Indra Group plans to become a Tier-1 European player, provide end-to-end capabilities across the value chain, and offer a range of civil-military products for secure satellite communications, observation, and navigation.

Indra Group is involved in programs like IRIS², Galileo, and Copernicus while advancing in space surveillance, Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) navigation, and Earth observation. Domestically, Indra supports SpainSat NG and PAZ satellites, and it plans to integrate Hispasat’s technology for operational efficiencies.

Indra Group’s CEO, José Vicente de los Mozos, commented: “Deimos and Indra Espacio will enable Indra Space to lead the design and manufacture of LEO/Medium-Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites and ground segment initiatives. Hispasat will drive our secure civilian communications services, while Hisdesat will allow us to provide military communications and surveillance services.”

The deal’s synergies are projected to generate 20 million to 30 million euros ($20.5 million to $30.8 million) by 2026, rising to 50 million to 70 million euros ($51.4 million to $72 million) by 2030.

Hispasat and Hisdesat are expected to contribute 400 million euros ($411 million) in revenue by 2026.
