SCOUT Space Acquires Company Named Free Space

SCOUT Space has made an acquisition to strengthen its defense and technical capabilities, acquiring space domain awareness software company Free Space. SCOUT announced the acquisition on Aug. 24. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

Both companies are focused on software for space domain awareness. Free Space was founded last year and built satellite autonomy and software concepts called Guardian Satellite and Trellis. The company has won more than $1.5 million of U.S. Space Force contracts to develop the technology and has backing from U.S. government agencies.

The company’s founders are both joining SCOUT. Vin Bisceglia who was the executive chairman of Free Space will take on the role of vice president of growth at SCOUT. And Free Space CEO Gil Valdes will become vice president of government programs. 

Eric Ingram, CEO of SCOUT commented the acquisition will help the company respond to government customer needs by expanding its defense and technical capabilities.
