Next week, we make a little bit of history as we launch digital CyberSat week, the first virtual event by the Satellite group here at Access Intelligence. An all-star lineup of cybersecurity influencers and experts will deliver presentations and panels looking at some of the biggest topics in the industry from supply chain and software-defined satellites, to interactive training from some top cybersecurity speakers. All this for less than a price of a night in a four-star hotel room in Paris. Not bad, right?

Here’s a look at some of the highlights of next week.

Our opening keynote will be Allan Friedman, director of Cybersecurity Initiatives at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) in the U.S. Department of Commerce. He will speak on the critical subject of transparency in the software supply chain. Friedman will review lessons learned, remaining challenges, and expected progress. He will also touch on the path to adoption, including market forces, and the ongoing role of governments and regulators.

One of the great things about CyberSat is it offers executives and engineers some of the best training from experts who can help them deal with real-time scenarios, a popular feature of our events in Washington over the last three years. Now, we are bringing this to a virtual scenario for the first time. We welcome a new speaker to the CyberSat community, Cameron Over, practice lead of Cybersecurity and Privacy for CrossCountry Consulting, who will lead the session “A Holistic Threat Modeling Approach to your Cyberspace Operational Environment.” Over will take you through a strategy from the abstract to the granular in order to ensure executives and defenders at various levels derive continuous value to co-create a hardened, dynamic, and intelligence-driven security posture.

On the same day, one of our most popular speakers in recent years, James Turgal, managing director of Cyber Risk Services for Deloitte (formerly of the FBI), brings his expertise to CyberSat. During his virtual session “Cybersecurity for Business Leaders: Making Sure Your Company is Ahead of the Cyber Curve,” Turgal will lead an exploration into the cyber threats specifically related to business leaders in identifying the types of threat actors, their actions and motivations, and the impact of a breach on business operations. Turgal will also take a look at the cyber risk mitigation programs companies are investing in, so leaders can shape their company’s overall strategy to deal with the cyber threat. These two sessions from Turgal and Over offer fantastic value in their own right, and are a must attend for those wanting to learn more about the cyber threat to satellites.

We also have some great virtual panels at CyberSat week, including a panel on software-defined satellites with Telesat and Airbus. We also have good representation from NewSpace companies, with both Spire and Planet taking part. Some exciting non-satellite companies will take part as well. Crystal Lister, senior director of Insider & Cyber Threat for GPSG and Chris Simkins, the co-founder of Corsha, team up for a session on supply chain security, one of the biggest issues facing the satellite sector right now. More non-satellite companies IBM and NVIDIA will speak directly to the satellite community alongside cybersecurity influencer Bob Gourley of consulting firm OODA.

To round of an amazing week of content at a frankly ridiculous price, a big-name government speaker — Kevin O’Connell, director of the Office of Space Commerce at the U.S. Department of Commerce — will close the event with a thought-provoking keynote.

Next week, we will make history with one of the most groundbreaking events we have ever done. Be a part of this history, as we bring an amazing array of speakers to talk satellite and cybersecurity. Come join us for this event which will create many talking points.
