Blues and Skylo Technologies will demonstrate Notecard for Skylo, a module capable of satellite, Wi-Fi, and cellular connectivity, at the Embedded World conference in Nuremberg, Germany. The module, designed for industries like logistics, energy, and transportation, adds cloud connectivity with multi-network failover to narrowband connected devices.

In a Monday statement, Blues said Notecard for Skylo can automatically switch between radio access technologies (RATs). The companies note it is a single Internet of Things (IoT) module capable of accessing satellite, Wi-Fi, and cellular data. For instance, a truck on the highway could connect to Wi-Fi in a depot, cellular data on the road, and satellite data in remote areas.

A spokesperson for Blues, an IoT connectivity company, told Via Satellite that the module will be priced at $89.

“Two years ago, Blues and Skylo teamed up to launch Starnote for Skylo, an add-on to our flagship Notecard that brought satellite connectivity to our customers,” Blues Senior Vice President of Product and Experience Brandon Satrom commented in the statement. “As adoption grew, it became clear that some of our customers wanted a single-module solution for seamless WiFi-to-cellular-to-satellite failover. In response, Blues and Skylo collaborated once again; developing Notecard for Skylo to deliver the simplicity, affordability, and innovation customers expect from Blues.”

The module’s pricing will scale with usage without a minimum monthly data commitment, the statement said. It will also not require a satellite subscription, and will require no additional hardware beyond an antenna for satellite and cellular connectivity.
