Oman’s largest oil and gas conglomerate, MB Group, has ordered an Astranis MicroGEO satellite to provide dedicated communications in Oman.

Astranis announced the deal on Monday in Oman with leaders from MB Group and government officials from the Oman Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The satellite will expand satellite broadband capacity in key markets in the Middle East for governments, enterprises, and communities. As a dedicated satellite it will provide sovereign control for Oman. It will support Oman’s digital infrastructure, which is one of the goals of the Oman Vision 2040 development plan.

The satellite is set to launch on the Astranis Block 3 launch later this year. Astranis purchased a dedicated Falcon 9 for its Block 3 mission a year ago. At the time, Block 3 was targeted for launch in 2025 but has now been pushed to 2026. Other customers on the launch are Thaicom in Thailand and APCO in Mexico.

“We’re entering a new era of satellite connectivity with Astranis,” Usama Al Barwani, vice chairperson of MB LLC said in a statement. “For MB Group it marks our continued journey not only in diversification of the group but to embrace cutting-edge technology. Harnessing these wider opportunities through using AI tools from global IoT monitoring to uninterrupted in-flight streaming.”

Astranis CEO John Gedmark said in a statement it is a nine-figure contract, and part of a $200 million investment by MB Group in sovereign connectivity. “Sovereign connectivity is no longer optional. Countries need private, secure networks to know their data is secure and in the right hands,” Gedmark said.

It is the second commercial satellite order from Oman in recent months after national satellite operator Space Communication Technologies (SCT) placed an Airbus OneSat order in November 2025 for OmanSat-1
