OQ Technology is forming a partnership with a U.K. Internet of Things (IoT) company as it looks to bring seamless and ubiquitous 5G IoT connectivity worldwide to customers. The company is teaming up with Eseye, a U.K.-based provider of global IoT connectivity solutions that will bring together OQ Technology’s Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation with Eseye’s AnyNet Connectivity Hub, with the aim of creating a unified ecosystem that bridges terrestrial and satellite networks through a single SIM solution. The two companies announced the partnership, Jan. 20.
Leveraging the 3GPP Release 17 standard, this partnership extends multi-RAT (Radio Access Technology) connectivity to non-terrestrial networks (NTN), enabling IoT devices to automatically roam between cellular and satellite coverage.
OQ Technology’s LEO satellites operate in S-band spectrum and aim to deliver low-latency, high- reliability connectivity designed specifically for IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications. This satellite layer complements Eseye’s terrestrial network partnerships, aiming to ensure consistent, always-on data transmission across both infrastructures.
“By combining satellite and terrestrial connectivity, we’re removing the complexity and limitations of global IoT deployments. This partnership ensures businesses can stay connected anywhere, unlocking new opportunities and accelerating innovation for our customers worldwide. This collaboration opens new opportunities for industries such as maritime, logistics, energy, mining, agriculture, and environmental monitoring, which depend on uninterrupted data flows for safety, efficiency, and sustainability,” Adam Hayes, COO of Eseye, said in a statement.
