IoT provider Soracom said that its non-terrestrial network (NTN) integration with Skylo is now in general availability for North America, Europe, Latin America, and Oceania. This allows Soracom customers to deploy cellular IoT devices that switch to satellite with unified platform integration.

Soracom and Skylo have been working together, and the service was previously under a limited preview that opened last year. Soracom said its customers can activate Skylo satellite coverage over-the-air from its platform management, without special antennas or modems. Soracom has integrated Skylo service into its platform that includes unified billing, cloud integration, and private networking.

The IoT provider shared the example of Delphire, which provides wildfire detection systems used by utilities and first responders, as a customer where the addition of satellite connectivity was valuable to keep its systems operational in challenging environments.

“Our collaboration with Skylo continues to remove barriers to innovation and scale, progressing toward an IoT where anything can connect to any cloud, or any GenAI engine, from anywhere,” said Soracom CTO and co-founder Kenta Yasukawa. “This launch reflects successful trials across geographies and industries, including energy, agriculture, defense, and communications.”

Skylo, which raised $30 million earlier this year, does not operate its own satellites, but works with mobile network operators and device and chip manufacturers to enable standards-based services using mobile satellite services (MSS) spectrum from satellite partners, including Viasat.
