Hughes Network Systems is using hiSky satellite terminals to deploy remote connectivity to 400 remote solar energy sites in Brazil, the company announced on Feb. 19.
Hughes’ customer plans to deploy autonomous solar energy sites in the Amazon region to bring renewable energy to families and small communities.
Hughes will be using the hiSky communication system for machine-to-machine connectivity (M2M) at the sites. The hiSky Smartellite dynamic terminal was chosen due to its lightweight size and low-power design. Initial client networks are being set up, enabling online access to mobile assets over Ku-band.
The connectivity solution is planned to be deployed by the end of the first quarter.
Rafael Guimaraes, president and general manager of Hughes Brazil, commented: “One of the problems they faced was the need to monitor and control the inverters at each site in real-time. Hughes Brazil was able to solve this problem by offering them a satellite connectivity service that is effective and affordable.”
Hughes says that the partnership with hiSky addresses the requirements of businesses for advanced M2M communications in difficult-to-reach areas.
