[Via Satellite 06-20-2014] Teledyne Paradise Datacom, a subsidiary of Teledyne Microwave Solutions, launched a new broadcast satellite modem/modulator solution for Asynchronous Serial Interface (ASI) and Internet Protocol (IP) Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) video broadcasts. This Q-Flex 5 solution provides broadcasters with a “single-box” modem and modulator solution for Ultra-High Definition television (Ultra-HD TV), Direct-to-Home (DTH), Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG), Internet Service Provider (ISP) backhaul, fiber restoration and video contribution and distribution applications.

The Q-Flex 5 supports IP and ASI interfaces and can multiplex the two together. It also supports the new Extension to the Second Generation Digital Video Broadcasting – Satellite (DVB S2X) standard and the legacy DVB S and DSNG standards. The solution delivers data rates of up to 155 Mbps with Dual Intermediate Frequency (IF)/L-band operation. It also has LinkGuard signal-under-carrier interference detection and constellation monitor, and delivers optimized spectral roll-offs down to 5 percent.

“Q-Flex 5 delivers all the capabilities digital broadcasters want and need, but does so in a single box, eliminating the additional cost and complexity required to obtain those capabilities in multiple boxes from competitors,” said Tony Radford, VP of sales for Teledyne Paradise Datacom.
