[Satellite TODAY 10-09-12] FSS operator Eutelsat has shipped its Eutelsat 21B satellite to the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, where it will be launched Nov. 9 onboard an Arianespace Ariane 5 rocket, Eutelsat confirmed Oct. 9.
Thales Alenia Space built the Eutelsat 21B satellite for the operator using its Spacebus 4000 platform. The 40-transponder Ku-band satellite will occupy Eutelsat’s 21.5 degrees East orbital position, replacing Eutelsat 21A, which will subsequently be deployed to another location for continued commercial service.
The new satellite will serve telcos, enterprises and government administrations operating in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, enabling Eutelsat to boost its capacity at 21.5 degrees East by 50 percent.
