[Satellite TODAY Insider 02-29-12] Talia has signed a long-term transponder deal with APT Satellite Holdings as it looks to boost its offerings in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa. Talia will be taking capacity on the Asptar 7 satellite and will offer Internet, intranet and closed network solutions on Apstar 7’s Ku-beam. The two companies announced the deal Feb. 28.
Travis Mooney, COO of Talia told Satellite Today Insider the reasons why the company decided to go with APT. “We are augmenting our current capacity with Ku-band on Apstar 7, which serves Afghanistan, the Middle East and East Africa, three of our core service regions, with a European uplink via the Talia teleport in Germany. We have been talking to APT for some time, and the coverage of Apstar 7 was just too good to pass up. Access to a wide coverage region brings a lot of options. For example, we can support point-to-point, mesh and Internet access for customers throughout all three service zones. This means better options for NGOs, governmental forces and enterprise customers,” he says.
APT commissioned Apstar 7 from Thales Alenia Space in 2009. Apstar 7 has 28 C-band transponders and 28 Ku-band transponders offering broadcasting and telecommunications services over hemispheric footprints covering the Asia Pacific region, Middle East and Africa.
Talia is also expecting to have a strong revenue performance in 2012, after a good year in 2011. “Our revenue was strongly up in 2011, and we expect 2012 to be even better with additional capacity, bespoke services for NGOs and teleport services are all part of our expansion plan,” adds Mooney.
The deal with APT could be the start of a busy year for the company as it looks to bring new services to market, as well as attack new regions. “We are bringing more broadcasting services to market with playout solutions from the Talia teleport. We are also looking to further expand geographically into Latin America, and broaden our portfolio with MSS and satphone services to serve as a one-stop shop for international communications throughout our service regions,” adds Mooney.
