[Satellite TODAY 11-17-11] ATIS has developed a downloadable multimedia security solution specification that aims to allow network operators to facilitate secure delivery of copyrighted video and other material over IP-based networks, the organization confirmed Nov. 16.

   The specification was completed by ATIS’ IPTV Downloadable Security Incubator (IDSI) and includes a secure mechanism for downloading, launching and operating content security clients. The solution also aims to accelerate the deployment of IP networks by allowing operators to download security clients to a wide range of consumer and network-provided devices, while protecting copyright holders. ATIS said the target applications for this solution include secure delivery of IP-based multimedia content to set-top boxes, home gateways and computing and mobile devices.

   “IPTV’s future growth is dependent on a secure and simple delivery of copy-protected video and other content over communications networks. This interoperable solution will help in the realization of a secure delivery system that comprehensively addresses the needs of end-users, operators and device manufacturers,” ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller said in a statement.
