[Satellite TODAY 10-26-11] Non-profit satellite organization Global VSAT Forum (GVF) has re-elected iDirect CTO and Senior Vice President of Engineering David Bettinger to its board of directors for a second term, iDirect confirmed Oct. 25.

   Bettinger will be responsible for collaborating with fellow board members to promote greater awareness of VSAT while creating new initiatives for industry regulation, spectrum allocation and delivery technologies that will drive the industry forward, GVF said.

   Under Bettinger’s leadership, iDirect has been actively involved in GVF initiatives. The company recently helped create the Maritime Satcom Forum, a focused group within GVF that aims to promote maritime VSAT through training, regulatory advocacy and outreach to shipping interests. Bettinger said the organization’s future goals would be focused on defining the requirements for Ka-band connectivity around the globe.
