[Satellite TODAY 09-30-10] Eutelsat has signed another satellite broadband deal in Europe through its Skylogic subsidiary, the company announced Sept. 29.
Skylogic will provide Eutelsat’s Tooway service to Bulgarian telco Vivacom via the Ka-Sat satellite to Vivacom to provide high-speed broadband services to its residential and enterprise users beyond the range of terrestrial networks.
Vivacom said that about one million Bulgarian households are located in rural and suburban areas and are still beyond reach of fixed terrestrial or wireless networks, highlighting the potential for satellite broadband in Bulgaria. Vivacom is launching the service at prices starting from BGN 39 ($27.10) per month.
“The Tooway satellite broadband service is the latest addition to our wide portfolio of communications solutions. Its launch positions Vivacom as the first ISP on the Bulgarian market with 100 percent national coverage, making it possible to extend broadband availability to users in areas with limited telecommunications infrastructure. This is a real breakthrough for the Internet landscape for Bulgaria,” Vivacom Director Products and Services Simeon Donev said in a statement.
