[Satellite TODAY 01-21-10] International Datacasting Corp. (IDC) was awarded a $5.3 million contract by National Public Radio (NPR) to update and refurbish the Public Radio Satellite System (PRSS), IDC announced Jan 20.
IDC, which provided NPR’s existing infrastructure, will update NPR’s network operations center equipment, while augmenting it with IDC’s production manager to provide functionality for region-specific programming. IDC also will deliver SFX4104 Pro Audio and DVB-S2 upgrades to NPR’s next-generation satellite receivers.
NPR’s PRSS transmits programming to more than 800 public radio stations throughout the United States. NPR’s distribution division has managed system since the PRSS’ inception in 1979.
