[Satellite TODAY 12-22-09] Com Dev International has been awarded a $7 million contract from an unidentified commercial customer to develop technology on a broadband communications satellite, the Ontario-based satellite company announced Dec. 22.
Under the terms of the contract, Com Dev will manufacture and deliver the waveguide and coaxial switches for the commercial satellite customer by the summer of 2010.
“This is a major switch order from a long-standing customer,” Com Dev CEO John Keating said in a statement.” Broadband communications represents an important driver of demand for additional communication satellite capacity, and when combined with the need for HDTV transmissions and the natural replacement cycle, helps make for a robust commercial marketplace.”
