[Satellite TODAY 12-17-09] Iridium Communications awarded a contract to Integral Systems subsidiary RT Logic to develop a software-defined modem (SDM) for new feeder-link terminals deployed at Iridium ground stations, the company announced Dec. 16.
    RT Logic will supply Iridium with two prototype SDMs based on RT Logic’s T400XR commercial-off-the-shelf product for on-orbit test and verification and expects to complete the development and certification effort by the end of 2010 in order to support the Iridium Next constellation schedule.
   “We selected RT Logic to supply this critical component because of its extensive technical expertise as a supplier of commercial off-the-shelf SDMs for low-Earth orbiting satellite applications,” John Roddy, executive vice president of ground operations and product development for Iridium, said in a statement.
