[Satellite TODAY 12-10-09] ICO Global Communications CEO and CFO Michael Corkery has resigned from the company, effective Dec. 31, ICO announced Dec. 9.
Corkery, who joined ICO in 2007 and was promoted to CEO in February, said he was leaving to pursue other career opportunities. Benjamin Wolff, ICO’s former director and acting chairman of its subsidiary, DBSD North America, will replace Corkery as interim CEO until ICO can find a permanent replacement.
The company also appointed Wolff as permanent chairman of the board, effective immediately. Wolff replaces Craig McCaw, who will remain on the board of directors.
ICO, under the leadership of Corkery, has been involved in a legal dispute with the European Commission (EC) over its decision in May to issue Inmarsat and Solaris Mobile exclusive licenses to operate MSS services over S-band in Europe.
Clarification-
In a November 2008 press conference, fomer ICO CEO Tim Bryan said that it’s legal action against Boeing, which was underway at the time, may affect its application timetable. However, ICO filed its S-band license application with the European Commission before the October 2008 deadline.
