[Satellite TODAY 12-08-09] German telecommunications provider Atrexx has introduced a point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connectivity service via satellite through single channel per carrier (SCPC) technology, the company announced Dec. 7.
The service uses high-power satellites that downlink to 1.8-meter Ku-band antennas and 2.4-meter C-band antennas and is scalable with small bandwidth increments. The low-latency SCPC runs all communications from customer’s headquarters to remote sites is via a single hop. Atrexx said its single-hop solution only needs half the satellite bandwidth of a hub-based alternative.
Atrexx said the service was driven by an upturn in demand for services from customers that connect geographically dispersed office locations with their headquarters, such as banks, government agencies and international businesses. The company said demand for connectivity to Africa and the Middle East are high.
