[Satellite TODAY 11-11-09] Loral Space & Communications reported its 2009 third quarter combined satellite manufacturing and service segment revenues increased about 9 percent to $424 million, up from $386 million in the corresponding period of 2008, according to the company’s financial results, released Nov. 11.
Loral reported net income for the quarter at $108 million compared to a loss of $44 million for the third quarter of 2008. Loral’s income statement reflects its 64 percent economic interest in Telesat. However, even without Telesat’s contribution, which also showed strong growth in the quarter,  Loral’s revenues were $249 million, compared to $213 million in 2008.
Space Systems/Loral‘s (SS/L) third quarter adjusted EBITDA was $32 million, contributing to a nine-month total adjusted EBITDA of $54 million, which more than doubles SS/L’s adjusted EBITDA of the first nine months of 2008.
SS/L’s satellite manufacturing revenues increased by about $100 million for the nine months of 2009 from $646 million in 2008 to $746 million. "In addition to the five contracts already awarded this year, we continue to see strong customer activity. This is likely to lead to additional bookings in the near term," Loral CEO Michael Targoff said in a statement.
