[Satellite TODAY 11-05-09] Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) has signed its first YahClick service partner agreement with Intersat Africa to roll out the broadband service throughout the continent, Yahsat announced Nov. 4.
YahClick will offer broadband provided by the Y1B satellite, Yahsat’s second spacecraft scheduled for launch in the second half of 2011. Prior to the launch, Yahsat said it will partner with additional service providers in 2010.
Intersat initiatives in Africa include programs in the area of education, including its involvement in an e-school project that aims to provide communications, technology skills and knowledge to primary and secondary school students in Africa.
"The YahClick Ka-Band consumer & enterprise broadband service compliments Intersat’s vision of empowering rural Africa with affordable and sustainable access to information and communication technology,” said Abdul Bakhrani, CEO of Intersat Africa, in a statement.
