[Satellite TODAY 10-30-09] The Irish government has chosen Eutelsat Communications to provide its Tooway satellite broadband service under Ireland’s national broadband scheme to deliver high-speed broadband connectivity to homes and businesses in rural parts of the country, Eutelsat announced Oct. 29.
    Satellite Broadband Ireland, Eutelsat’s regional Tooway distributor, will deliver the service under a separate contract from Three, an Irish mobile broadband provider running the National Broadband Scheme on behalf of the Irish Government.
    Tooway’s satellite broadband service will be delivered to up to 5 percent of the 223,000 targeted buildings across rural Ireland. The national broadband scheme involves an estimated 223 million euros ($330 million) investment by Three, of which a maximum of 79.8 million euros ($118 million) will be contributed by the Irish government and European Union.
