[Satellite TODAY 09-30-09] Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSB)’s Thor 6 satellite has arrived at the Guiana Spaceport in Kourou for its scheduled launch by Arianespace at the end of October, TSB announced Sept. 29.
The satellite will be launched with the SES World Skies’ NSS-12 satellite on an Ariane 5 rocket. Thor 6 will replace the Thor 3 satellite, which is set to retire in 2010 as well as provide additional capacity for expansion.
“The launch of Thor 6 will further strengthen TSB’s position in Central and Eastern Europe, providing much needed expansion capacity to 1 degree West, which already services over 15 million TV households throughout the Nordics and [Central and Eastern Europe] region,” Cato Halsaa, vice president and CEO of TSB, said in a statement.
