[Satellite TODAY 08-27-09] Harris Corp. is setting up a television transmitter manufacturing presence in Brazil, the company announced Aug. 26.
Harris said it is considering a production location on Campinas — a region often referred to as the Brazilian Silicon Valley – and that the new operation will leverage several advantages of the region such as Mercosur trade agreements and Brazilian tax exemptions.
“Brazil is one of the five biggest media markets in the world, and we always knew we needed to have a strong presence there. This initiative is part of detailed, long-term strategy that Harris put in motion several years ago, with the plan being to launch once the DTV rollout gained momentum,” Harris Broadcast Communications President Tim Thorsteinson, said in a statement.
