[Satellite TODAY 08-18-09] Hughes Network Systems has launched a new HX-series broadband satellite router, the HX280, Hughes announced Aug. 17.
The HX280 commercial-off-the-shelf router aims to provide carrier-grade IP services with enhanced security and on-the-move capabilities. The router features integrated federal information processing standards (FIPS) 140-2 cryptographic security and HX system enhanced signaling security, which protects all data, management and signaling traffic over the satellite network. The HX280 also is configurable in any combination of star and mesh networking topologies.
“In designing the HX280, our goal was to build on the HX platform with enhanced security features required by the U.S. government and Department of Defense and some of our more demanding commercial customers. The HX280 combines high-end secure voice and data services with on-the-move capabilities and ensures protection of critical security parameters. It has also been designed to operate with our simplified Network Management System available later this year,” Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of Hughes’ Defense and Intelligence Systems Division, said in a statement.
