[Satellite TODAY 08-07-09] Inmarsat reported a 5 percent increase in revenues to $508.7 million, driven by strong growth in the company’s maritime business, Inmarsat announced in its 2009 first half financial results, released Aug. 6.
The MSS operator increased profits by 10 percent in the six-month period that closed in June to $97 million. The company’s aeronautical division saw revenues increase by 25 percent in the first half of the year, driven by strong demand in the government sector.
“Our results for the first half and second quarter show that we are on track for solid revenue growth in 2009. In particular, the continuing strong performance of our maritime business, driven by revenue from new services, shows that we are more than offsetting the impact of reduced shipping volumes and vessels not in use,” Inmarsat CEO Andy Sukawaty said in a statement.
