[Satellite Today 07-14-09] Escape Communications, a provider of microwave radio indoor units, has rolled out with 1+1 Hot Standby Switch Protection Mode capability for its EXM-2L16 radio unit, designed for point-to-point satellite microwave connections, the company announced July 13.
The single-box solution aims to increase system reliability while minimizing link downtime in the event of an outdoor unit hardware failure.
In 1+1 Hot Standby Switch Protection Mode, the EXM-2L16 automatically detects a hardware failure, isolates the location of the failure, presents alarms on a Web display, and switches traffic from the primary outdoor unit to a secondary hot standby outdoor unit. The EXM-2L16 protects both primary and hot standby outdoor units from a single small-form factor indoor unit.
“By providing a cost-efficient method of protecting outdoor units, our OEM customers can offer higher availability links with less downtime and outages, providing both [capital expenditure] and [operational expenditure] savings over the life of the network,” said Escape co-founder and CEO Michael Stewart, in a statement.
