[Satellite Today 06-08-09] Blue Sky Network has partnered with Iridium Satellite to supply an Open Passage vessel with voice communications and GPS mapping technology for its upcoming four month-long Arctic journey, the companies announced June 4.
Open Passage’s 40-foot yacht, Silent Sound, will travel through Canada’s Northwest Passage on a mission to study climate change equipped with the BSN D2000 device and the Iridium 9555 satellite phone.
Iridium said it is using the voyage as way to promote its connectivity services in Arctic regions where it is the only available provider.
