[Satellite Today 05-15-09] Al Jazeera English deployed its Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) X-Stream mobile broadband satellite service provided by Stratos Global Corp., making it the first media organization to do so, Al Jazeera English announced May 14.
   Al Jazeera English began using X-Stream, released in April, to broadcast live television news coverage of military developments from Pakistan on May 6. The news outlet has since used the service for live broadcasts throughout the Middle East region.
   Al Jazeera English said the deployment of the system led to its sister organization, Al Jazeera, deciding to deploy an additional 30 BGAN units for use at news bureaus worldwide.
   Separetly, Vizada said it completed testing of the Inmarsat BGAN X-Stream service with a number of media customers, including CNN and Al-Arabiya News Channel, in an announcement released May 14.
   The test phase was coordinated with Vizada’s service provider partners Digital Skies and Atlas Telecom. With testing completed, the service is commercially available, Vizada said.
