[Satellite Today 03-12-09] Sirius XM Radio added about 83,000 new subscribers at the end of the year, well short of the 1.1 million subscribers the company added in the fourth quarter of 2007, the company reported in its fourth quarter and full-year 2008 financial results released March 11.
Sirius reported churn at 1.8 percent, up from 1.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007.
The company reported full-year revenue increases of 16 percent at $622 million, which beat the expected figure of $615 million set by analysts. Its 2008 net loss was $248.5 million, compared with a loss of $405 million in 2007. Sirius XM said it trimmed subscriber acquisition costs to $70 per gross subscriber addition from $83 in the year ago quarter.
