[Satellite Today 12-17-08] In a new tax plan made public Dec. 16 at the New York State government Web site, New York Gov. David Paterson outlined provisions that would impose a sales tax on satellite TV.
Under a proposed digital download tax, television and radio services provided by cable and satellite as well as downloads obtained over these mediums would be taxed.
“Change is never easy, but it is the only way we can put New York back on the road toward fiscal and economic recovery," Paterson said in a statement. “There is no doubting the seriousness of the problems we must address and the need to deal with them in a direct and candid manner.”
