Tandberg Television unveiled an end-to-end head-end and distribution solution for next-generation digital terrestrial television (DTT). Tandberg cited European digital switchover deadlines, growing consumer and industry pressure for high-definition (HD) broadcasts over DTT and standardization work for DVB-T2 as driving forces for the new solution.
Tandberg will demonstrate the next generation MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC encoding for standard-definition and HD television, IP statistical multiplexing and IP streaming as part of its iSIS 8000 IP head-end solution for DTT.  The demonstrations are intended to show how DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-H video streams can be processed in the same headend and highlight the efficiencies of using IP transport for all over-the-air broadcast services.
“DVB-T2 products, and most importantly, set-top box silicon, should reach the market by late 2009 or early 2010,” Simon Frost, business development director for Tandberg, said.
