Viasat Expands its UK Play with New Acquisition

Viasat has acquired Horsebridge Defence and Security, a U.K.-based company focused on design, system integration and support of deployable secure networks. Through this acquisition, the Viasat U.K. group gains deeper military communications integration expertise, enabling growth in the U.K. defence market by delivering mission-critical ground-based communication networks and services.

From their U.K.-base in Cheltenham, Horsebridge Defence and Security have developed relationships with the U.K. Armed Forces, supporting a number of U.K. Ministry of Defense programs.

The Horsebridge Defence and Security team will be integrated into Viasat’s Farnborough-based organization, and will have immediate access to Viasat’s full communications portfolio, from the satellite communication and Link 16 mobile networking solutions, to its cybersecurity and information assurance capabilities.

Horsebridge Defence and Security develops and integrates technologies under its Kestrel II-branded services portfolio, offering a range of complementary secure network products, solutions and services that are specifically targeted at the U.K. defense requirements.

Financial details of the transaction are not being disclosed.
