DirecTV Loses 188,000 Satellite Customers, but OTT Subscribers Are Streaming In

DirecTV continues to lose satellite TV subscribers, but its streaming service has grown to nearly 1.5 million subscribers, somewhat cushioning the blow for owner AT&T. More than 312,000 DirecTV Now streaming service customers signed up in the first quarter of the year. While this helped AT&T maintain its pay-TV subscriber base, it still saw its shares slip nearly 5 percent in after-hours trading after the company missed Wall Street’s profit estimates. Investors also learned that DirecTV lost 188,000 satellite TV subscribers in the quarter.
