Hispasat has teamed up with internet service provider GlobalSat to roll out satellite connectivity hotspots in 500 remote towns in Mexico, including Durango, San Luis Potosí, Guerrero, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, and Sinaloa. The two companies announced the collaboration April 19.

This project, which has been promoted by Mexico’s government through the CFE TEIT initiative, will allow residents of these towns to enjoy free satellite connectivity on their devices through an open Wi-Fi hotspot located in public areas in these communities. Hispasat offers broadband connectivity through its Ka-band capacity on its Amazonas 5 satellite located at the 61 degrees West orbital position.

“We are very satisfied that GlobalSat has chosen us to provide satellite connectivity in these 500 remote hotspots in Mexico. GlobalSat is joining us on this extensive long-term joint project, and we are convinced that this initiative will be a complete success when expanding Internet access in these towns,” Ignacio Sanchis, chief commercial officer of Hispasat said in a statement.
