O3b Networks Inks Multi-Year Trunking Agreement With Our Telekom

[Via Satellite 08-25-2014] O3b Networks has signed a multi-year agreement with Our Telekom, located in the Solomon Islands, for Internet backhaul services. O3b plans to begin initial service rollout in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, and gradually expand to the Outer Islands.
More than 1,000 islands comprise the Solomon Islands; it is the fifth largest nation in Oceania. Our Telekom is implementing Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines (ADSL) followed by 3G over main islands.
Our Telekom CEO Loyley Ngira said O3b’s trunking service would provide Internet access in advance of a planned undersea fiber optic cable. Once the terrestrial solution is installed, O3b will be retained as a backup service.
