[Via Satellite 05-21-2014] HeliosNet selected Newtec to provide Business-to-Consumer (B2C) and Business-to-Business (B2B) Very-Small-Aperture Terminal (VSAT) services across Eastern Russia. This new service will use Russian Satellite Communications Company’s (RSCC) Express AM5 satellite, which was launched in December 2013.

Newtec will install a broadband system, with its satellite broadband hub included, and thousands of MDM2200 and MDM3100 Internet Protocol (IP) satellite modems. This broadband hub will be set up in Irkutsk, in the Eastern Siberia region of Russia.

“We selected Newtec’s VSAT technology for our new satellite broadband service after being impressed by the ease of use, the bandwidth efficiency and the price attractiveness of the end-user terminals,” said Alexey Sergeev, general director of HeliosNet. “This means we can provide an attractive service pricing without jeopardizing the quality.”

The service will first use Ku-band capacity, but will have the ability to upgrade at a later time to operate in Ka-band.
