[Via Satellite 01-08-2015] DirecTV has selected a new USB powered Ethernet-to-coax adapter from Entropic and Wistron NeWeb Corporation for Ultra-HD 4K broadcasts. The adaptor provides sufficient throughput for Ultra-HD video and streaming media services to any DirecTV-ready television without requiring a separate Set-Top Box (STB).

The new USB MoCA adapter uses Entropic’s fourth-generation MoCA 1.1 solution, EN2562, making it small enough to sit behind a television. The device draws power from the television USB port. Using the adapter, viewers can stream premium content from the Genie server.

DirecTV began offering 4K programs in November 2014 through a partnership with Samsung. The recently launched DirecTV 14 satellite and the upcoming DirecTV 15 satellite are expected to provide additional capacity for Ultra-HD broadcasts. The adapters will be available in mid-2015.
