[Via Satellite 04-19-2016] ALi Corporation, a Set-Top Box (STB) chipset provider, and DishTV, Asia’s largest Direct-to-Home (DTH) operator, have entered a strategic partnership to enhance existing DTH operations and target future expansion opportunities. The partnership aims to provide a high-performance and cost-effective STB solution with next-generation security tailored specifically for the India market. Through this partnership, DishTV plans to expand its market share and increase revenue streams.

India’s DTH satellite pay-TV sector remains a growth-oriented industry. Media Partners Asia forecasts that this sector will generate revenues of $ 4.04 billion by 2018 and $ 5.6 billion by 2023 in the country. The DTH active subscriber base will increase to 60 million by 2018 and 70 million by 2023. This implies a 39 percent share of the overall market by 2023 and a 56 percent share of the digital pay-TV market. The explosive growth potential poses great challenges in terms of technologies, costs, content security and revenue protection. Chipset technology plays an important role in DTH operators’ ability to ramp up subscriber additions.

“To maintain our market leadership and capture expansion opportunities in India, it is crucial that we provide our subscribers high quality and affordable set-top boxes that enable differentiating features such as high definition video, a variety of VAS, middleware support and content security,” said V K Gupta, COO at DishTV.
