OneWeb Signs on as Customer for LeoLabs Collision Avoidance Service

OneWeb is adopting LeoLabs Collision Avoidance service for its constellation as part of a multi-year agreement between the two companies announced Tuesday.  

LeoLabs Collision Avoidance is a web data and analytics service for satellite owner-operators that provides real-time data about the location of other satellites and space debris. It is supported by LeoLabs phased-array radar network that tracks more than 18,000 resident space objects in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO).  

SpaceX and Planet also use LeoLabs service, and the company said that with the addition of OneWeb, LeoLabs supports about 60% of all operational satellites in LEO. 

LeoLabs said this agreement will give OneWeb on-demand ephemeris screenings for near-instant maneuver planning verification, aggregation of all conjunction alerts from LeoLabs and the 18th Space Control Squadron into analysis reports, and conjunction alerts generated against other operators’ ephemerides.

“OneWeb believes space is a shared natural resource that can be harnessed for good today and should be protected for use for future generations. Today’s agreement is another positive step as part of our responsible space policies. LeoLabs’ Collision Avoidance tools will further enhance our ability to monitor our constellation as we prepare to launch global service in 2022,” commented John Guiney, vice president of Fleet Operations at OneWeb. 

LeoLabs also released a 3D visualization of the OneWeb constellation, which will update as new satellites are launched. To date, OneWeb has launched 394 satellites.
