By Caleb Henry | September 9, 2014

[Via Satellite 09-09-2014] The United States Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) has awarded a $54 million contract to ViaSat as well as a separate contract to Data Link Solutions to jointly develop and qualify new Tactical Targeting Network Technology (TTNT) capabilities. The awards support a U.S. government program aimed at transitioning from the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Low Volume Terminals (LVTs) to tactical data links with a certified, reprogrammable, software defined radio architecture.

ViaSat and Data Link Solutions will work on the MIDS Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) as part of the MIDS Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract initially executed in March 2010. Since then the contract has been expanded to make room for additional awards.
