NMSA Set to Complete Construction on Horizontal Launch Facility Runway

      [Satellite TODAY 02-17-10] The New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA) is set to complete construction on the runway of its new horizontal launch facility, Spaceport America, NMSA announced Feb. 16.
          The NMSA has been working with commercial partners Virgin Galactic, Lockheed Martin, Moog-FTS and UP Aerospace to develop commercial spaceflight at the new facility.
          The runway project, which began in August, will be completed this summer. The 10,000 foot-long, 200 foot-wide multi-layered runway is made up of 24 inches of prepared subgrade with the top 6 inches comprised of a soil-cement mix foundation, followed by 4 inches of asphalt and a 14-inch finish layer of concrete.
