Lockheed Martin Completes GOES-R Imager Design Review

By Staff Writer | December 18, 2009

[Satellite TODAY 12-18-09] Lockheed Martin has met the requirements of a NASA and U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) critical design review of a Solar Ultraviolet Imager (SUVI) unit that will be installed on Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Series satellites, Lockheed Martin announced Dec. 17.
Lockheed Martin, which was contracted in 2007 to build the SUVI, said the completion of the review keeps its team on track for instrument delivery in October 2012, with six months of schedule margin to meet that date.
The SUVI GOES-R program will proceed to fabrication of the flight units. The next major review will be the pre-environmental review, scheduled for November 2011. The first GOES-R launch is scheduled for 2015.
The GOES Program is managed by NOAA and aims to  collect and distribute environmental data for the United States.
